Student cards

As well as identifying you as a student at the University, your student card allows you to access campus facilities, borrow from the library, print and photocopy, and gives you access to a wide range of travel and student discounts.

How to get your student card

1

Upload your photo

Upload a passport-style photo to Sydney Student that meets the following photo guidelines:

  • Photos must be cropped slightly above your head to the middle of your chest and your whole head must be visible
  • Please use a clear, plain background (light backgrounds work best). Anything in the background may result in your photo being rejected. The photo must not be too dark or too light, with darkened or washed-out colours
  • All photos must be in full, natural colour
  • Caps, hats, dark/tinted glasses should not be worn (religious headwear is accepted but it cannot cover your face)
  • You must be positioned directly facing and looking into the camera, with no tilted head, turned head/body. Avoid glare/shadows over your face
  • Digitally altered photos are not allowed. This includes colour correction, blurring, and any other alteration
  • Photos with red eyes caused by the camera flash will be rejected
  • It must be an original photo (no photos of photos)
  • Ensure that the photo is not taken from too far away. Resolution of your photo should not be too low, as this will not produce a clear image for your ID card.

You'll be able to do this:

  • after you’ve completed all the steps to enrol; you’ll be prompted by Sydney Student to add your photo
  • at any time after enrolment by logging in to Sydney Student (go to 'My studies', then 'Enrolment' and select 'Upload photo').

If you have issues uploading your photo, we recommend using a Mozilla Firefox (Windows) or Safari (MacOS) browser. If this doesn't work, contact us online through our Student Cards form.

2

Book an appointment

If your photo meets the guidelines, we’ll approve it and send you a date your card will be ready by. After the collection date, your card will be ready for you at the Carslaw Learning Hub West. This hub is open Monday - Friday, 9.30 am - 4 pm and no booking is required.

If you are living or studying within NSW, you will be required to collect your card at the Camperdown/Darlington campus. If you are based interstate within Australia, you may be eligible for your card to be sent by post.

3

Collect your student card on campus

From 9 July 2024 until census we will only be operating out of the Carslaw West Learning Hub – NOT JFR Student Centre. We are open 9.30 am - 4 pm in Carslaw West for walk ins.
